The New West Partnership enters Phase Two

June 27, 2013

The New West Partnership Trade Agreement is a far-reaching economic partnership between the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. Under the agreement, businesses registering as a corporation no longer need to register separately in each of the three jurisdictions, as extra-provincial registration are facilitated by the home province.

Phase Two

As of July 1, 2013, the second phase of the New West Partnership (NWP) will allow for extra-provincial registration through the home jurisdiction for limited partnerships, limited liability partnerships and co-operatives operating in Alberta, British Columbia or Saskatchewan.

Registration and maintenance fees will be waived for extra-provincial registrations of these entity types, and any annual return filing requirements will be eliminated. Maintenance filings will also be facilitated by the home jurisdiction and no fees will apply. Name search and reservation fees will still apply.

Changes to the Current Process

The Corporate Registry will no longer require certificates of status or letters of good standing from the home jurisdiction. New forms (Registration Statement, Amendment Statement, and Cancellation Statement) will be used to facilitate the registration and maintenance activities for these entities. These forms are available atwww.isc.ca/corporateregistry/form.

Limited liability partnerships are no longer required to have a registered office located in Saskatchewan or a designated partner representative in Saskatchewan; only a power of attorney will be required.

A request to cancel a limited partnership in Saskatchewan no longer needs to be signed by a general partner; the letter requesting the cancellation can be signed by an authorized representative.
